As several media outlets reported on Thursday, tech giants Apple and Nvidia are in negotiations to participate in a new round of financing for AI company OpenAI. OpenAI, known for its chatbot ChatGPT, could reach a valuation of over 100 billion dollars as a result of this investment.
In addition to Apple and Nvidia, the venture capital firm Thrive Capital had also announced that it would invest a considerable sum of around 1 billion dollars. Microsoft, already a major investor with over 10 billion dollars, is also expected to participate in this financing round. However, the exact investment amounts of the companies involved are not yet known.
OpenAI is playing an increasingly important role in Apple’s own AI strategy. Back in June, the iPhone manufacturer integrated ChatGPT into its devices as part of “Apple Intelligence”. According to rumors, Apple could even be granted observer status on the board of OpenAI.
OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, was already valued at 80 billion dollars in February. The potential new investment round could now significantly increase this value once again.
