The clock is ticking for Tiktok in the USA. Vice President Vance is certain that his boss will not have to extend the deadline that expires on Saturday.

The US government will present a solution before a deadline for the Chinese short video app Tiktok expires this Saturday, according to Vice President JD Vance. “I think we’re on a good path,” Vance said on Foxnews. However, the government still needs a few days to finalize some things. President Donald Trump will announce the solution, and that will happen before the deadline expires, Vance emphasized.

According to a US law, Tiktok should actually have been sold by the China-based owner Bytedance by January 19 – or go offline in the US. However, Trump granted a grace period of 75 days, which expires on April 5.

Vance said it was about achieving two things. Tiktok had to be prevented from spying on users in the United States. This is important for national security. But the government also wanted to give people access to this “incredible platform”. Many young people would use it to find out about the policies of the Trump government. “And we have achieved both,” said Vance.

According to a media report, Amazon recently announced its interest in purchasing Tiktok. The world’s largest online retailer made the offer in a letter to Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, wrote the New York Times. However, various parties involved in the negotiations did not take the Amazon offer seriously, it said.

Bytedance and Tiktok had previously said that it would be impossible to sell just the US part of the short video app because this would break up the platform. Trump said that there were “different ways to buy Tiktok” – and that they would find the one that was best for the US. Another interested party for Tiktok is the software company Oracle, which Bytedance had already commissioned to secure the data of US users.
