ChatGPT is down. Since Thursday afternoon, the AI service has been unavailable or only accessible to a limited extent for many users. According to OpenAI, there are increased error rates when accessing the popular chatbot and the API interfaces.
Following an initial fault report at 12:33 CET, the company initially announced that the problem had been resolved. However, complaints from users around the world continue to pile up. Over 6000 reports were registered on the Downdetector platform in the UK and more than 4,300 in the USA.
Users are reporting “Bad Gateway” error messages in both the web version and the mobile app. There were already performance problems when uploading data the day before.
OpenAI has now identified the cause of the persistent disruption and is working on a solution. The company has not yet given a concrete timetable for the complete restoration of the service.
