French IT service provider Atos has denied claims by ransomware group Space Bears of a successful attack on company systems – but admits that Atos-related data was found on compromised third-party infrastructure.

In a statement published on January 3, the troubled French technology group described the Space Bears’ claims as “unfounded”. “No infrastructure managed by Atos was compromised, no source code was accessed and no proprietary Atos data was exposed,” the statement reads.

However, Atos later added a notable caveat in the same statement: “Atos is aware that external third-party infrastructure not affiliated with Atos was compromised by the Space Bears group. This infrastructure contained data mentioning the Atos company name, but is not managed or secured by Atos.”

The ransomware group had placed Atos on its leak page on December 28 and set the company a deadline of January 7 to pay the ransom – otherwise the captured data would be published.

It remains unclear who owns the affected infrastructure, whether it is an Atos supplier and whether the data in question contains customer information.
