Samsung will equip its new smartphones and gadgets throughout with Artificial Intelligence functions. At the “Galaxy Unpacked” event in Paris’s Louvre, the South Korean electronics company presented a new generation of its Flip and Fold foldable smartphones and its Buds and Buds Pro headphones, which are extensively equipped with AI functions.
For example, the headphones can automatically detect siren signals in the environment and lower the volume of music playback so that you can become aware of dangerous situations. Samsung Mobile Chief TM Roh said in Paris that his company had developed the first foldable smartphone and brought AI functions to mobile devices.
AI to help users Samsung is relying on a self-developed AI, which the South Koreans call Galaxy AI. At the same time, Samsung is also integrating AI technology from Google Gemini, such as the “Circle to Search” function. This allows users to mark a person or object with a circular finger movement and have it recognized on the screen by AI. Samsung’s AI also includes comprehensive translation functions for written texts and spoken language. In Paris, Samsung also presented a new generation of its smartwatches.
The newly introduced Galaxy Watch Ultra model strongly resembles the Apple Watch Ultra in design, which the iPhone company launched in 2022. The rectangular titanium case and the orange button for calling up certain actions are strongly based on Apple’s design. Samsung launches sales of fitness tracker In another product category, however, there is no counterpart from Apple: In Paris, Samsung launched the sale of the Galaxy Ring fitness tracker, which was first presented as a prototype at the CES electronics trade show in Las Vegas in January.
The tracker looks like a massive jewelry ring and can capture important health and fitness values via sensors on the inside. The data enables, among other things, AI-supported sleep analysis. Female users can better track their menstrual cycle through nighttime monitoring of skin temperature. The Galaxy Ring also monitors heart health: In case of unusually high or low heart rates, the fitness ring triggers a pulse warning via the Samsung Health App. Additionally, the Galaxy Ring is designed to motivate users to lead an active lifestyle.
For instance, an inactivity alert reminds you to move. Ring-shaped fitness trackers are currently only available from relatively small providers such as Oura, Ultrahuman, Ringconn, or Evie, some of which are only available with a monthly service subscription. Samsung offers the ring without a subscription and charges a one-time fee of just under 450 euros for it. dpa
