In Google’s ongoing antitrust proceedings, internal data was disclosed showing that the AI chatbot Gemini had around 350 million monthly active users worldwide in March.
The Information first reported on these statistics. The use of Google’s AI offerings has exploded in the last year. Gemini only had 9 million daily active users in October 2024, but last month the company already had 35 million daily active users according to its own data.
However, Gemini still lags behind the most popular AI tools in the industry. According to the Google data presented in court, ChatGPT had around 600 million monthly active users in March. This puts ChatGPT on a similar user base to Meta AI, for which CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in September that it was approaching the 500 million monthly user mark.
While different companies measure monthly active users slightly differently, these figures illustrate how widespread consumer adoption of Gemini has become. In the past year, Google has made Gemini accessible to millions of users through AI integrations with Samsung smartphones, Google Workspace apps and the Chrome browser.
