The company Light is launching its new model, the Light Phone III, on March 27. The aim of the device is to offer users an alternative to the distractions of modern smartphones and social media.
Like its predecessors, the third generation also has a simple black and white display and is limited to essential functions such as telephony, text messaging, navigation, alarm clock, hotspot, calendar and music playback. What is new, however, is a 3.92-inch AMOLED display, which replaces the previous e-paper screen.
In addition, the Light Phone III has been enhanced with a camera and an NFC chip, which should enable mobile payments in the future. Ease of repair has also been improved: the battery is now accessible and both the screen and USB port can be replaced.
Light has also optimized the usability and performance of the device. With a width roughly equivalent to that of many iPhones, the Phone III is more comfortable to hold. “It retains many of the features of the e-ink display that our users appreciate, but looks less glossy and typical of a smartphone,” explained co-founder Joe Hollier at the launch last year.

Higher price for more features
The improvements are also reflected in the price. While the previous model with an e-ink display was available for 299 US dollars, the Light Phone III will initially cost 599 US dollars. According to the website, the price will later rise to 799 US dollars. Light offers its own data plans, which start at 30 US dollars per month for 1 GB.
