Tanium Automate

Tanium launches Tanium Automate and announces further functions

Cloud-Security

Tanium, provider of Converged Endpoint Management (XEM), announced the general availability of Tanium Automate. Automate enables organizations running Tanium in the cloud to achieve high-precision, real-time automation for common IT operations and security tasks.

It leverages the broad range of endpoint management and security capabilities, real-time architecture and scalability of the Tanium platform. As such, Automate enables operators to automate complex tasks in real-time, replacing manual processes with easy-to-implement orchestration and automation across operational and security domains. Automate is a key component of Tanium’s Autonomous Endpoint Management (AEM) offering, which leverages real-time analysis of changes to all global cloud endpoints. This allows changes to endpoints to be recommended securely, reliably and automatically to maintain operational health. This reduces the risk of negative IT outcomes and improves the security of the IT environment.

Automate is already having a measurable impact at VF Corporation, a global footwear and apparel company known for international brands such as JanSport, Eastpak, Timberland and The North Face. “When patching servers and fixing vulnerabilities, it’s critical that we stop all services and make sure they’re turned off before we proceed,” explains David Anderson, head of patch automation and vulnerability remediation at VFC. “This is extremely difficult, especially because we only have a two- or three-hour maintenance window to perform updates. The process requires communication between different teams and coordination of our efforts to ensure that all systems are ready for patching. As a result, we often don’t have the time to carry out the patching.

What used to be a highly fragmented, multi-step process now runs seamlessly on a single platform with a single click at VF Corp. The team can now easily control specific services, check if they are no longer running and deploy patches.

Traditionally, the complexity of automation solutions required highly skilled experts to create, scale and maintain automation libraries. Automate provides an intuitive experience for users with varying levels of technical expertise to create repeatable playbooks and automate even the most complex task flows.

Tanium’s growing partner ecosystem participated in the product launch to develop solutions with Automate. With their expertise, Tanium partners can provide best practices and customer use cases as highly differentiated and authoritative Tanium Automation Playbooks.

Tanium Ask

Tanium is also introducing Tanium Ask, which is currently in private preview. The AI-powered natural language interface will query data from millions of endpoints in seconds and extend existing functionality to support even the most sophisticated queries. This eliminates the need to understand complex syntax, significantly reducing the time to action for even the most demanding queries. For example, with the new AI-driven question bar, customers can query a list of machines that have not been rebooted and patched in the last 30 days in seconds, and then deploy an Automate playbook to quickly bring the endpoints into compliance.
