Vertical mice – the new hype?

Vertikale-Maus

When it comes to ergonomics, there have been various attempts to better integrate ergonomic aspects into the mouse and keyboard for decades. The conclusion: to date, little or nothing has changed. Will vertical mice now bring about a change?

Given that we spend around a third of our lives sleeping, it is only logical to invest in a high-quality mattress. After all, sleep has a direct impact on our health and well-being. The same applies to cooking. So why not for the workplace, whether in the home office or in the office?

If you spend most of the day at your computer, you shouldn’t cut corners. A height-adjustable desk, an ergonomic chair and a good mouse are essential. The latter is not just a tool, but an essential part of our working environment.

Why a vertical mouse?

If you look online, the first mouse dates back to 1963. In 1994, Jack Lo developed a groundbreaking ergonomic mouse, which he patented after experiencing discomfort when using a conventional mouse. His innovation was the first mouse to hold the hand in a fully upright hand position, avoiding the arm twisting typical of conventional mice.

Vertical mice are still something of a novelty, at least in everyday office life, even if gamers like to use them. As with any new device, whether car, computer or peripheral, a certain amount of practice is required before the learning curve increases and the device is mastered.

The vertical mouse offers benefits for wrist and arm health and also supports a generally healthier posture when sitting at the computer. Wrist pain in particular is often a nuisance. With carpal tunnel syndrome, the tissue in the carpal tunnel swells. If it presses on the median nerve, sensory disturbances and pain can occur. The syndrome is exacerbated by overloading and incorrect loading of the hand. Until now, wrist splints and cortisone injections were often the result. This can now be avoided.

Long-term benefits and conviction

Vertical mice are no longer exotic or expensive curiosities. Almost every peripheral manufacturer has something to offer in this area – from budget to premium products. This means that it’s easier than ever to experience the comfort and health benefits of a vertical mouse for yourself.

Conclusion: An investment that pays off

If you spend most of your day at the computer, you shouldn’t skimp on mouse comfort. The ergonomic design of a vertical mouse can help to reduce the strain caused by traditional mice. So if you are in pain, give the vertical mouse a chance.
