According to a new forecast by Gartner, global spending on information security will amount to 212 billion US dollars in 2025, an increase of 15.1 percent compared to 2024.
In 2024, global end-user spending on information security is estimated to reach 183.9 billion US dollars. “The continued increase in threats, the trend towards cloud computing and the shortage of skilled workers are pushing security up the priority list and forcing Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) to increase their organizations’ security spending,” says Shailendra Upadhyay, Senior Research Principal at Gartner. “In addition, organizations are currently assessing their Endpoint Protection (EPP) and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) platform needs and making adjustments to improve their operational resilience and incident response following the CrowdStrike outage .”
The use of AI and generative AI (GenAI) will further increase investment in security software markets such as application security, data security and privacy, and infrastructure protection. By 2025, GenAI will lead to a surge in the cybersecurity resources required to secure it, resulting in an expected 15 percent increase in security software spending (see table).
