Parts of the world-famous British Museum remain closed following a suspected IT attack by a former employee. All temporary exhibitions were also closed to the public on Sunday, as a museum spokesperson confirmed to the German Press Agency.

It was unclear when they could be visited again.

On Saturday, it was reported that a former technician had broken into the museum and “shut down several of our systems”. The police confirmed to the PA news agency that an operation was carried out on Thursday evening because “damage to the museum’s security and IT systems” had been reported. The man has been released on bail.

Visitors are informed about the restrictions on the museum’s website. “The museum is open, but due to an IT infrastructure problem, some galleries have had to be closed,” says the museum.
