CyberArk, the provider of identity security solutions, is further expanding its portfolio with the acquisition of identity governance specialist Zilla Security. The deal has a volume of 165 million US dollars in cash, plus a performance-related earn-out payment of 10 million dollars.
The acquisition is part of the listed company’s broad-based expansion strategy. CyberArk acquired the machine identity specialist Venafi for USD 1.54 billion at the beginning of 2024. With the acquisitions, the company is pursuing the goal of building a uniform, cloud-first platform for the management of both human and machine identities.
The Boston-based start-up Zilla Security, which has so far raised venture capital of 17.6 million dollars, is developing AI-supported tools to automate complex processes such as user provisioning and compliance checks. These functions are now to be integrated into CyberArk’s Identity Security Platform.
“As enterprises navigate the proliferation of privilege in complex identity landscapes, modern IGA capabilities become critical for protecting digital assets and maintaining business agility,” said Matt Cohen, Chief Executive Officer of CyberArk on the company’s website. “By expanding the CyberArk Identity Security Platform with Zilla’s modern IGA capabilities, we will reshape identity governance with scalable automation that delivers compliance and helps maximize security for the modern enterprise.”
The acquisition follows the trend towards consolidation in the identity security market. Just last year, CyberArk expanded its capabilities in the field of machine identities with the acquisition of Venafi. In particular, this involved functions such as cryptographic code signing, certificate lifecycle management and private PKI solutions.
With the expanded portfolio, CyberArk aims to support companies in managing both human and machine identities securely and compliantly in increasingly complex IT landscapes.
