Siemens is strengthening its research and development activities. A lot of money is being spent on a US company.
Siemens is acquiring the US company Dotmatics, a provider of research and development software in the life sciences sector. The purchase price is 5.1 billion US dollars, as the Munich-based company announced. The seller of the Boston-based company is the investor Insight Partners. Dotmatics is expected to generate sales of more than 300 million US dollars in the 2025 financial year and is highly profitable.
“With the acquisition of Dotmatics, we are strategically strengthening our position in the life sciences sector,” said Siemens CEO Roland Busch according to the press release. This will create a globally leading AI-supported software portfolio in the product lifecycle sector. According to CFO Ralf Thomas, the acquisition will be financed primarily through the sale of shares in listed companies, including Siemens Healthineers.
The news did not cause much excitement among investors. The Siemens share price recently rose on the Tradegate trading platform by a quarter of a percent compared to the Xetra close. The shares of Siemens Healthineers and Siemens Energy fell slightly.
